Office in Daikanyama, Cogent Lab.

A Tectonic Approach to Interior Design

We designed an office for an IT startup located in Daikanyama, Tokyo. The company has been growing rapidly in recent years and expects to continue to increase its personnel. We therefore set out to develop a system that would allow for changes to be made after a period of several months, including the expansion or relocation of the office. We used standard steel L-angles and bolt joints to design all the elements, and ensured that they were detailed in a way that allows for easy disassembly and reuse. To visually convey this, we applied chromate conversion coating on all the connecting parts such as the glass brackets. Additionally, we finished the reinforced concrete floor by simply polishing it, heightening the contrast between the existing brutal concrete structure and the new delicate elements. This was a project in which we applied a tectonic approach to interior design.
